Five States of Change: Metal
W.M. Sobieska
- Instrumentation: Alto Solo — for any solo instrument, alto clef
- Wuxing:
Metal is the strongest of all elements,
firm, rigid, and seemingly invincible;
yet, under certain, very particular conditions,
it is the most brittle: it shatters utterly,
completely.
It is an agent of strategy and perseverence:
its are the gifts of foresight and long-range planning
that allow the imagination to unfold
step after step after step after step
upon the tracts of the universe.
Its celestial friend is the White Tiger of the West,
and its season is Autumn.
Metal, you say?
Better know it by its other name:
this is Gold.
